Our booth activity will be the first lesson in our STEAM curriculum. In this lesson, students will build a bmx bike, and receive three NGSS STEM codes, and two math standards.

Student and staff representatives will showcase their interactive Exhibition design challenge that focuses on an environmental issue in California. The students will engage the audience in a recyclable sorting game, as well as present their proposals and prototypes on how to combat the environmental issue. The presentation will demonstrate the Design Thinking process.

Fun hands-on chemistry activities for kids of all ages. Put together by the scientists from the NSF Centers for Chemical Innovation these activities demonstrate a range of chemical phenomena in robust ways using everyday items to make the chemistry concepts accessible to audiences of all different ages.

Since 2009 Castle Park High students, with Dr. Pomeroy of UCSD, have learned to produce biodiesel from vegetable oil. Our booth demonstrates the step-by-step process of biodiesel synthesis, discusses the advantages of biodiesel over petroleum and outlines the ease of production. Our booth includes CAICE researchers who provide demonstrations concerning climate change and atmospheric chemistry. We also partner with Algenesis who demonstrate biodegradable materials that mimic plastics and foams.

Midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy mentor you through your choice of several hands-on, interactive science and engineering activities for all ages. The diverse subject matter planned includes a range of STEM topics including chemistry, aerodynamics, electricity, logic, fluid mechanics and robotics.
